Sainsbury's: What you can and can't collect

Here’s a list of what Sainsbury’s stores can and can’t donate:

✅ You CAN collect:

  • Chilled and ambient food products on their ‘use by’ date.
  • Ambient food items past its before before date, this includes a wide range of foods that are found in cans, jars, and packets. These food types have a long shelf life and can be redistributed via extended life beyond ‘Best Before’ e.g. 1 month for Crisps.

NOTE: Ambient food items will only be offered if charities aren't able to collect them.

❌ You CANNOT collect:

  • Anything with an expired ‘use by’ date.
  • Loose Bakery Items
  • Products in damaged or split packaging that could lead to contamination of other items.
  • Alcohol
  • Medicine
  • Baby formula
