Why are my listings & notifications delayed?
- When you have 7 food pickups confirmed in a 7-day period, new food listings and their notifications will be shown to you with a 1-hour delay.
- A confirmed pickup is when you receive a message in your ‘messages’ section of the app saying “{Olioer name} has just confirmed that you're collecting {listing name}. Great job!”
- The 1-hour delay will automatically be removed as soon as you have had less than 7 food pickups confirmed in the last 7 days.
- This delay is applied to ensure that as many people as possible get the opportunity to pick up food. This is so Olio can grow and therefore save more food, and to avoid anyone becoming dependent on Olio.
Please note:
- This is not a ban. There is no limit on the amount of food that you can collect on Olio - if you can see a listing in the app, you can request it
- You will always be able to see business donated food that is added after 9pm (local time).
- Confirmed pickups of these listings will count towards your 7 confirmed pickups
- Non-food, Wanted & Borrow pickups do not count towards your 7 confirmed pickups
- If you trigger the delay, only your food listings/notifications are delayed. Your non-food, Wanted & Borrow listings/notifications are unaffected
How do I know if my listings & notifications are being delayed?
- If in the last 7 days, you have been confirmed to pick up more than 7 listings you will be sent an Olio's Little Helper message informing you of the delay
- You will only receive a message from Olio explaining the delay the first time the delay is applied to your account. On subsequent occasions when the delay is applied you will not receive a message - this is because the delay can switch on and off multiple times in a short period of time, depending on whether you’ve had 7 pickups in the past 7 days
- If you open the app and can’t see any listings added under 1 hour ago, but consistently see listings added over 1 hour ago then it may well be a sign that the delay has been triggered. You could test this by checking a friend’s app who has the same location set as you
.
Does the delay result in more food being wasted?
- We measure the % of food listings that are picked up very closely - every day in fact. Since introducing the notification delay we have seen no increase in the % of food listings being wasted, and yet we have seen a significant increase in the number of people benefitting from Olio.
