What to do if you don't get along with another FWH

Our FWH program brings together people from many walks of life to save food from waste, and support local communities. When a slot becomes available, you will join a collection squad. Within your squad there may be people you immediately click with, and there may be people you feel you won’t get on with.

Olio’s Customer Satisfaction team cannot mediate every disagreement between volunteers; plus, in our experience there is rarely a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ side to an argument. We’ve therefore made this guide to help you navigate situations where you feel someone is being rude towards you.

  1. Assume good intentions - most people become FWHs to help their community and the planet, not to alienate other people 🫶
  2. Remember you can't hear someone’s tone in written language
  3. Be mindful of language and cultural barriers
  4. Step away from the conversation if you feel upset - don’t escalate the situation

While we hope FWHs build good relationships with each other, it is ok if everybody isn’t friends within a squad. In instances where relationships aren’t strong, please just use the squad chat to confirm your collections and answer any basic questions to coordinate with the group.

If someone uses clearly offensive language towards you, click the flag on the message that is offensive or use the issue report form and send screenshots of the messages.

Finally, please remember that all volunteers have signed a non-discrimination pledge, and failure to comply with this could result in you being removed from the FWH Programme.
