Nando's: General information

Collecting from Nando's:

We are so excited to trial Olio Food Waste Hero collections at Nando’s. 🐔

⏰ We are piloting at 3 stores in London: Lavender Hill, Brixton, and Camberwell. There will be daily collections at 10:10pm.

💡 Team Olio will be monitoring the Squad Chat throughout this pilot phase, so please just send a message to flag any issues, rather than filling out an Issue Report form.

How these collections will work:

    • There will be food from these stores almost every day. If you are assigned to a slot, please presume that you will be collecting! You will not receive a confirmation message in the Squad Chat. Please simply attend your collection. 🙏
    • On the rare occasion that there is nothing to collect, the store will update you by sending a ‘No food available’ message in the Squad Chat. If you receive this message, please DO NOT attend your collection.

What to do when you arrive:

📍 The store will be shut when you arrive so you will not be able to enter via the front door.

➡️ Instead, you will see a delivery window (where Deliveroo drivers normally collect their orders). Please knock on the window and wait for a member of staff. When they open the window, please explain that you are there to collect their surplus food items for Olio.

🛍️ The staff will keep the food in the hot hold until you arrive, so please wait a couple of minutes while they get the collection ready. Then they will pass it through the window, for you to bring home and list the items - simple!

What you will be collecting:

Nando's will be donating hot chicken at Lavender Hill. This food is being donated as a hot item and will be packaged in plastic freezer bags to make it easy to carry. Hot food from Nando's cannot be refrigerated once collected, and must be redistributed to local Olio-ers within 1.5 hours.

🌽 All stores will be donating sides such as corn, salad, rainbow slaw, and desserts. These will be packaged in cardboard boxes with a label or tick box to identify the item.

🛍️ Please remember to bring your own carrier bags. The plastic freezer bags and cardboard boxes do not have handles so you will need to place them into larger shopping bags for transport. (If you have temperature control bags - even better!)

Sharing hot food:

Some bacteria can survive normal cooking temperatures which can produce poisons in the food if handled incorrectly. You must follow the rules below in order to redistribute this hot food safely:

  1. If hot food is not in hot hold at the time of collection or if you think the food is not hot enough, ask a member of staff to check the temperature. If the food is below 63°c, you must reject it.
  2. Hot food from Nando's must be redistributed within 1.5 hours of collection. (These items cannot be refrigerated once collected, and must be redistributed to local Olio-ers within 1.5 hours.)
  3. Once these items are collected, they cannot be reheated. Please make a note of this in your listing.
  4. No-contact pickups for hot food are not allowed.

Prelistings:

In order to share these items as quickly as possible, we ask that you please post a pre-listing before your collection. This is a post on Olio before your scheduled collection to let local Olio-ers know you're expecting to collect and share food later on. 🙏

This means that your neighbours will be waiting for you so they can request, and not the other way around, so you receive requests as quickly as possible! Check out  this article to learn exactly how to post a pre-listing.

❗️Remember: pre-listings must be posted against your ‘personal’ listings, and not against your ‘collection slot’ so that they don’t impact your sharing statistics.❗️

Please note that during the pilot phase at Nando’s, some processes may be subject to change. Please regularly check the Squad Chat as this is where Olio will communicate important updates.
