Deals

What is the Deals section?

The Deals section allows Olio-ers to discover reduced-to-clear food items, often referred to as 'yellow sticker items', from local shops and supermarkets. These deals are sourced directly from the retailer's internal systems and provide you with the opportunity to save money and reduce food waste. You can add a yellow sticker item to your watch list to keep an eye on its availability, and then go into the store to buy it.

Why are you introducing a Deals section?

We’ve launched the Deals section as the next step in our fight against food waste, and as another way for Olio-ers to save money whilst also saving the planet.

By complementing the Food Waste Heroes Programme with the new “Deals” section, Olio can for the first time offer businesses a powerful “one stop shop” whereby they can sell some of their spare food at a discount in-store, and then everything left over can be redistributed to local communities for free via the Food Waste Heroes Programme. This will address one of the biggest barriers to the adoption of Olio by businesses to date.

Can I keep an eye on specific yellow sticker items?

Absolutely! With our watchlist feature, you can keep tabs on the items that catch your eye. Just click on the star ‘watchlist’ icon on a listing and then find the listing later within your watchlist which is located in the main menu. When a yellow sticker item is no longer available in the store, it will show as sold out before being automatically removed at the end of the day. Please note that adding a yellow sticker item to your watchlist does *not* reserve it for you.

What do I do if I want to buy a yellow sticker item?

First, add the item to your watchlist. Next, check that it’s still in stock before heading to the store (unless it has a sold-out label then it’s still in stock). Once in the store, find the item from the discounted section (along with any other discounted bargains that take your fancy) and buy it at the till like you normally would.

How often do yellow sticker items get updated in the app?

Yellow sticker items are updated roughly every 5 minutes. This means you're always in the loop with what's available in the store right now.

Is it possible to filter yellow sticker items by store or category?

Yes! Tap the filter icon to filter the yellow sticker items by store, category, discount percentage and more.

How do I set, or turn off, notifications for yellow sticker items?

If you've got your notifications turned on, we'll send you a daily notification about new yellow sticker items at your preferred stores (those selected within your filters). You can customise or turn off your notifications in the notifications section in the main menu.

Why can’t I see any yellow sticker items near me?

We currently receive information on discounted items from roughly 300 stores around the UK, however we’re hoping to rapidly expand this. So if we don’t offer any deals near you yet, please hold tight and hopefully we’ll get there soon!

How do I know what stores are on Olio Deals?

Because the stores that are in the Deals section will be changing regularly, the best thing to do is to check the app, and set your notifications to be alerted when new yellow sticker items become available near you.

Which Olio FWH clients are going to join the Deals section?

We don’t know yet. We anticipate that some existing clients may want to join the Deals section, but many will not.

If an existing Olio FWH client joins the Deals section, will there be less food for me to collect at my collection?

If an existing FWH client joins the Deals section then this may well mean there will be less food available for Food Waste Hero collections, unfortunately. However
overall we anticipate that launching the Deals section will result in much more food being redistributed to the community via the Food Waste Heroes Programme. That’s because many businesses who aren’t yet working with us want a “one stop shop” whereby they can sell some of their surplus food to increase extra revenues, and they can redistribute the rest to local communities to get to zero food waste.

Will Olio save more or less food from going to waste with the launch of the Deals section?

Overall we anticipate that launching the Deals section will result in much more food being redistributed to the community via the Food Waste Heroes Programme. That’s because many businesses who aren’t yet working with us want a “one stop shop” whereby they can sell some of their surplus food to increase extra revenues, and they can redistribute the rest to local communities to get to zero food waste.
