Booker is a wholesaler, so collections tend to be larger and more varied than a typical store. Here's what to expect when you collect from Booker as a Food Waste Hero.
🍽️ What food will I collect?
You'll usually collect a mix of:
Chilled use-by items (e.g. cooked meats, dairy, eggs)
Ambient goods (e.g. tins, juices)
Whole foods (e.g. fruit, veg), often undated
Best-before items, still fine to share if the food looks and smells good
Chilled best-before items must be shared within 24 hours.
📦 How much will I get?
It varies by day and location. Ask in your Squad Chat for typical volumes. Usually one person with a car can manage a collection.
📥 Do I have to collect if it's a small haul?
Yes, please collect whatever's there, however small. Even small hauls keep good food out of landfill.
🔄 What if there's too much to take?
Only take what you can store and share safely. If three collections in a row are too large to handle, let us know using the Issue Report Form.
🚗 Will I need a car?
Yes, a car is required for Booker collections because of the volume of food. There's usually a car park you can use, but check parking before you set off for your first collection.
💷 Can I claim back petrol or parking?
We're not able to reimburse petrol or parking costs.
