What is a Holland & Barrett non-food collection?
Holland & Barrett donate non-food items from their stores that are no longer suitable for use in stores. As a Food Waste Hero, you collect these items from your local store and list them on Olio so your neighbours can grab them for free.
Do I list these items on Olio the same way I would food?
Yes - non-food collections go on Olio just like any other Food Waste Hero listing. The one difference: make it clear in your listing title that the items are non-food. Use this format:
"Non-food collection from Holland & Barrett"
Then describe what's included in the listing details. This helps people browsing the app know exactly what they're picking up.
Why does the title matter?
Olio is best known for food sharing, so being clear that a listing is non-food helps set the right expectations. It means the right people find it, and nobody's surprised when they come to collect. Simple, but it makes a real difference!
Do I need a car?
Often, yes! H&B non-food collections can include bulky items like mops, buckets, chairs, and occasionally tables - so a car is usually needed to transport everything safely. Your store contact will confirm in the squad chat whether you'll need one ahead of your collection, so keep an eye out for that message before you head over.
Can I list electrical items from H&B?
Yes, but there's an important step first: any electrical item must be PAT tested before it can be listed or passed on. PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) checks that an electrical item is safe to use.
Here's what you need to know:
If an item has already been PAT tested by Holland & Barrett, it'll have a PAT test label or sticker on it. You're good to go - just list it as normal.
If you're unsure whether an item has been PAT tested, check with your store contact before listing it.
Never list an electrical item that hasn't been PAT tested. It's a safety issue, and keeping our community safe always comes first.
What if something looks damaged or unsafe?
Don't list it. If something's damaged or you're not sure it's safe to pass on, leave it out of your listing and let your H&B store contact know. When in doubt, leave it out.
