How should I bundle my collection items?

Bundling means grouping more than one item into a single Olio listing. Done well, it keeps the feed tidy, helps people find what they want, and makes it easier for Food Waste Heroes to manage their requests.

Situation

Group together?

Date rule

Identical items (same product, same date)

✅ Yes

Show the shared date on at least one of the items in your photo, and set the quantity to the number of items.

Identical items (same product, different date)

✅ Yes

Make sure every different date is clearly visible across your listing photo(s).

Similar items (same type of food, different varieties or dates)

✅ Yes

Make sure every different date is clearly visible across your listing photo(s). Add extra detail in the description if helpful.

Different types of food

❌ No

Create separate listings for each type of food.

💡 Good practice: While it is not against the rules, it is better to keep items with a 'use by' date and items with a 'best before' date in separate listings.

Identical items

If you have several of exactly the same item with the same date, create one listing. One photo that clearly shows the date is enough.

Examples:

20 bananas 🍌

10 identical cheese sandwiches 🥪

8 strawberry yoghurts 🍧

Similar items

Similar items are the same kind of product that only differs by flavour, filling or variety. For example:

  • ✅ Sandwiches with different fillings 🥪

  • ✅ Yoghurts in different flavours 🍨

Because the dates can vary, every different date must be clearly shown across your listing photo(s), take more than one photo if you need to, and add extra detail in the description if it helps.

❗Important note about Add Collection: If you're creating a bundle of similar items that aren't identical, such as sandwiches with different fillings or yoghurts in different flavours, please note that Add Collection won't automatically add this information to the listing. Therefore, you will need to add the fillings or flavours to the description yourself. It is important for requesters to know what is included in a bundle before they request a listing.

Always show the date 📅

Every different date in your listing, whether Use By or Best Before, must be clearly shown in your listing photo(s). If the items you're grouping have different dates, make sure every one of those dates is visible, not just one.

⚠️ Listing without a clear Use By or Best Before date in the photo(s) will result in a formal warning. If the item doesn't have a date, please mention it in the title of your listing to avoid your listing being reported.

Different items

Don't group different types of food together

Grouping unrelated food into one listing isn't correct practice on Olio. When items like bread, bananas, salads and ready meals all go in one listing, requesters can't tell what they'll actually collect, and your listings are much harder to browse. Please create a separate listing for each type of food.

So instead of one listing for:

  • ❌ Bread + bananas + salads + ready meals

Create separate listings for:

  • 🍞 Bread

  • 🍌 Bananas

  • 🥗 Salads

  • 🍲 Ready meals

Separate listings make it much easier for people to browse and request the items they want.
