Can I be added to a squad on ‘stand-by’ so I can fill in when someone can’t do their collection?

No, only the Squad Captain can be part of a squad without having any active collection slot with that store. If someone can’t do their collection, the person should either skip or pause their collection. One or more collections will be created and become available on the Volunteer Hub visible to all Food Waste Heroes in the area.
