Sharing on Olio is safe and simple, and a few quick checks help keep it that way. Here's how to share with confidence.
👩🦱 Choose who you share with
Most listings get multiple requests, and it's up to you who you share with. We recommend checking the other person's profile (tap their photo), how they messaged you, and the pickup times they can make. If you'd rather not share with someone, let them know politely that the item's going to someone else so they're not left waiting.
🥖 Check the item
People share some brilliant things on Olio, so take a moment to look at the photo and description. Be wary of stock photos: if something seems too good to be true, it's worth extra caution.
🌟 Check their rating and profile
You can see a user's rating on their profile once three or more people have rated them after sharing. The 'About' section on their profile tells you more about them, including their likes and dislikes. When you sign up, you're asked to verify your phone number as a safety measure, and so is everyone else.
💬 Assess the communication
Were they friendly and polite? One of our guidelines for sharing is that courtesy rules.
🏘️ Meet in a safe place
Most exchanges happen on the doorstep of the person listing the items, but you can set the pickup location as a public place if you prefer. If you're collecting from another Olioer, check the address so you're comfortable with the area and the time of day. You can also leave items in a safe space outside your home for someone to collect. This doesn't apply to Food Waste Hero volunteers.
